Q. Is paraquat PIC (Prior Informed Consent) Listed?

A. No, paraquat is not PIC listed. PIC (Prior Informed Consent) is a provision of the Rotterdam Convention. It relates to certain pesticides and industrial chemicals which have been banned or severely restricted in at least 2 countries to protect human health or the environment and to pesticide formulations which were proposed by a country with an economy in development or transition for PIC listing due to severe effects observed after exposure under conditions of use. The PIC process provides countries with information on the chemicals in the form of Decision Guidance Documents (DGDs) which are, however, often limited to the content submitted by the notifying countries. Countries, via their Designated National Authorities, are required to make a decision on the further import of those chemicals and pesticide formulations whereby the DGDs can assist the countries in informed decision making.
